We invite you to take part in School ESTRO/RATRO « True vertical depth of radiotherapy – from visualization to delimitation of area», which will be held within a framework of the key international event in the field of radiology and oncology «The first international oncology and radiology forum».

Participation is paid; an exclusive bid is for residents of the Russian Federation.

The course is for experts in radiation oncology and radiation physics with at least a year of experience, diagnostic radiologists, who are interested in methods of visualization in oncology, and also radiation therapeutists, who are interested in issues of contouring and treatment planning. However such course will be useful for any specialist, who wants to improve the level of his professional skills.

Goals of this course:    

  • Set out and explain the foundations and limits of different methods of visualization using for true vertical depth (TVD), such as ultrasound, computer tomography (KT), magnetic resonance imaging, positron emission tomography
  • Demonstrate the need for true vertical depth (TVD) and planning of utilised nomenclature for primary tumor, field of lymph nodes, organs at risk
  • View such methods of treatment as intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT), and also adaptive radiotherapy conception
  • Estimate limits of modern methods of visualization, using for true vertical depth (TVD) and view the modest methods of visualization for TVD
  • Study usage of methods of functional and molecular imaging for true vertical depth (TVD) of biological tissue and their usage in radiotherapy
  • View and estimate the interface used in diagnostic imaging and therapy for registration, deformation and verification of image, and also for delimitation.

Academic content:    

  • Methods of visualization for gross tumor volume (GTV) and clinical target volume (CTV), including ultrasound, computer tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, positron emission tomography
  • Data acquisition of visualization for treatment planning
  • Functional and molecular imaging in oncology

  • Recommendations on support of primary tumor optimal visualization of different focalization: central nervous system, regions of head and neck, glandula mammaria, lungs, digestive tract, genitourinary system

  • True vertical depth (TVD) and limits in terms of interobserver agreement

  • Image processing, image fusing and network transmission

  • Geometric uncertainties in conformal radiotherapy and IMRT/VMAT

  • Image registration in conformal therapy, IMRT/VMAT and IGRT

  • Practical group study    

  • Interactive plenary sessions with special-case analysis

You are expected:

  • 20 hours of lectures

  • 4 hours of practical training workshop

  • 4 hours of case analysis

At the end of this course the participants will be able:

  • Use anatomic knowledge in daily clinical practice

  • Have a pretty clear sense of requirements to images for optimal visualization in cases of treatment planning and care delivery of different tumors

  • Have enough knowledge for reasonable delimitation

  • Have enough experience for record initialization of image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT)

The course is in English, but booth interpretation to the Russian language will be provided for you.
